The SIIT Trades and Industrial department is launching a new program that prepares participants for entry level employment in hotel operations and a potential for apprenticeship in the guest services trade.

As the educational leader in the classroom, the Guests Services Representative Applied Certificate Instructor/ Coordinator will be responsible for delivering SIIT programs with the purpose of promoting student success.  This position is to organize and implement instructional activities which create a learning environment that guides and provides the greatest opportunity for student success.  These include the following broad range of accountabilities:

  • Deliver course content related to hotel operations and the guest services trade
  • Coordinate and supervise student practicums
  • Complete all course-required materials including attendance records and course evaluations
  • Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress within set time frames
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment
  • Adhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures
  • Maintain classroom discipline and, if necessary, recommend action to applicable supervisor regarding student behavior, including formal student disciplinary action
  • Make recommendations to modify course objectives, course outlines, curriculum and evaluation procedures

Required Qualifications and Experience: Certified Hotel General Manager (CHGM) (Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council), or equivalent hotel and restaurant management diploma is considered an asset. Journeyperson in the Guest Services Trade with an understanding of tourism trade processes in Saskatchewan would be essential. Service Best or Service Best Management Training Certification (STEC/ Tourism Saskatchewan), Workplace Trainer Certification (STEC/ Tourism Saskatchewan), Experience in the facilitation of training in guest services occupations and workplace essentials (Emerit) are all considered assets to this position. For success in this position the candidate will have Hotel management experience, and a genuine commitment to help students learn and succeed is required. Prior teaching experience is preferred. A demonstrated knowledge of First Nations Culture and current issues is an asset.
